Modern Georgian

“Working with Stephanie was an absolutely delightful experience. She is a true master in her craft, and her expertise transformed by backyard into the dream oasis I have always wanted and dreamed about.”

This newly installed project named, The Modern Georgian, was created for a client who knew exactly how she wanted her landscape to look and feel. We updated both her front and backyard gardens to complement her existing paved areas. Her plan focused on keeping a garden that always looked neat and tidy with everything in its place. The design needed to feel elevated, be a reflection of the architecture of her beautiful home as well as balance its’ presence. A lot of extra lighting was added to highlight both the plants, house and circulation pathways. The irrigation system was updated to service all the plant material and planters. Security locks were added to gates for safety and a sports net installed so their children could play basketball without the ball making its way to the neighbour’s yard. There were mature hedges of Hornbeam and Emerald Cedar as a base for the backyard plans. We focused on adding form and perspective using trees and shrubs with height and volume. As much evergreen was incorporated as well as year round interest with a lot of texture. The colour palette focused on blues, purples and greens with a minimal selection of plant species but repeated to create movement and rhythm throughout the spaces. On a recent visit, all the plants were settling in beautifully.

Plants Used: Japanese Maples, Frans Fontaine Hornbeam, P.J.M. Elite Rhododendron, Hicksii Yews, Puffer Fish Hydrangea, Peegee Hydrangea trees, Cat’s Pajamas Catmint, and Wildberry Coral Bells.
